“He raises the needy from the dust, lifts the poor from the ash heap.”

– Psalms 113:7

visiting a pauper's graveyard

And Jesus said to His disciples, “Blessed are you who are poor, for the Kingdom of God is yours.”

– Luke 6:20

Our Mission Team went out one day into the desert where we visited a paupers’ graveyard. Perhaps no place in Chimbote speaks more poignantly to the soul-crushing anonymity of poverty. Here lay hundreds of once precious lives. Born, like us, in the image and likeness of our Creator. Raised in a daily struggle for the essentials of life many around us take for granted. Now we find them, nameless souls called home to their Maker. Buried in a Peruvian Potter’s Field. Known only to God.

This week, we pray for the grace to open our eyes and see – to really SEE – the face of Jesus in the poor. He calls them and us each by name. Let us hear His call and respond.
