Mass and Commissioning for Chimbote Mission Teams

At this year’s event, attendees joined Bishop David A. Zubik for the Mass and Commissioning of the 2017 Chimbote Mission Teams to pray with and support our Chimbote missionaries. The event was held on Wednesday, May 24, which was the Eve of the Ascension. The mass was held in the McDowell Auditorium at St. Paul Seminary. In addition, guests were encouraged and invited to stay after the mass for a spaghetti dinner, which was served in the Cardinals’ Great Hall.

This annual event is a great way to learn more about our Diocesan mission in Chimbote, Peru; meet and share with both current and previous Chimbote missionaries; enjoy a great meal and support the teams with your prayers, encouragement and financial support, if desired. The Mass and Commissioning event is always open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their families and friends.

For 2017, two teams of ten each will be traveling separately to Chimbote in June and July to serve in our Diocesan mission supporting a maternity hospital, medical clinic, laboratory, pharmacy, children’s shelter and home visit program. Please keep the neediest of our brothers and sisters in Chimbote in your prayers as the El Nino weather pattern recently brought torrential rains and flooding to this area, leaving many homeless or with damaged homes.
